CARE OF YOUR HERON BILLIARD TABLE        Print This Page

Thank you for purchasing a new Heron Billiard table. We take a great deal of pride in our products and try to ensure maximum customer satisfaction. By following the simple rules below you can keep your table in tiptop condition and playing satisfaction.

Levelling

If the table is moved and needs to be set up, then its best to do it this way.

Set each of the four outside leg adjusters at the same height and screw up the middle leg adjusters so only the four outside leg adjusters are touching the floor. Now press down with light pressure on each pocket area. The table should be stable and not wobbling. If it is wobbly then determine which leg is causing the problem and then unscrew the leg adjuster until all four feet are firmly on the ground when weight is put on the four corners (one at a time).

If you have a spirit level place it across the table at one end. Using the leg adjusters, raise the lower end until the table is level. Now go to the other end and repeat the process. Next place the spirit level along the length of the table. If one end is lower then the other you will need to raise the low end. As far as possible adjust the leg adjusters to raise the low end until the table is level, Then go back and check the level across the end you have just raised and make sure it is level.  The table should now be level.

Sometimes it is hard to see the bubble in the spirit level is exactly level. You can test the level of the table by throwing a ball from one end to the other. Throw it hard enough so that it bounces off the far end cushion, back to your end and then back to the far end again. Make sure you do not put a spin on the ball. Check the last 500 mm of the run and make sure the ball is going straight. If it isn’t, then raise (using the leg adjusters) the side it rolls towards very slightly.  Repeat this from both ends until the table if perfectly level. Then check across the table for level as well and raise the low end as required. Once you are satisfied the table is level bring down the middle leg levellers to take their fair share of weight. This is mainly to prevent the table sagging slightly over time.

If the cloth is new then the nap can effect the last bit of the roll, so disregard very slow roll. As people play or touch the cloth it effects the nap and can make it change direction. The ball needs enough speed to overcome this without deflecting.

If your table is on carpet, the level may constantly change until the table settles into the carpet. So check the level each day or time you play until it has settled. With some carpets this can take weeks or even months until the table is perfectly settled.

Cleaning the Cloth

Brush the cloth regularly to lay down the nap and remove any debris and dust. Always brush with the nap and not against it. You can feel which way the nap runs by gently running your hand along the length of the table both ways and find which is the smooth way to go. Do not overly brush the cushions. Brush them only enough to remove dust. The will extend the life of the cushions. Do Not Iron the Cloth.

Cleaning the polished Timber

If heavy dust or grit is present, always blow or remove with a soft cloth or feather duster before cleaning. If the timber has our Scratch resistant finish as in any BT Std Slate, BT Deluxe model, BT Professional, Classic Breeze, Pool Champ Special or Supreme then you only need soft paper as in hand towels, tissues or toilet paper. We recommend Viva Hand towels as the best to use. Take two single squares, fold them each in four. Wet one of the squares and run the timber top between each pockets. With the dry square, wipe to remove any water or residue.

If the table does not have our scratch resistant finish as in some Starline or BT Std Slate economy models, then use a furniture wax or polish to achieve the desired result.

Other Maintenance.

If the table has empire rails, periodically check the cap nuts are on firmly, if loose tighten with a small spanner so they do not fall off. You can put Blue Tack on the thread if some tend to work loose regularly.

Hints For Good Care

Don’ts

Don’t toss coins over the table

Don’t put drinks on or over the table

Don’t drop the balls onto the table, place them on instead

Don’t always break from the same position. Anywhere behind the line is the official rule. Not using the same place each time you break can extend the life of the cloth up to double.

Don’t use a vacuum cleaner or iron as used incorrectly can cause damage or destroy the cloth.

Do’s

Avoid belt buckles, heavy metal watchstraps; diamond rings hitting the timber top and sides as carelessly done can leave a mark.

Check the nuts on empire rails periodically to make sure they are tight.

Keep clean, Cover with a pool table cover if in a heavy dust area, such as near dirt roads.

Watch out for cats and dogs, sometimes they will scratch or gnaw the legs, nets or cloth. This doesn’t happen often, but it does occasionally. A heavy-duty cover is good for protection in these circumstances.
